Henry and the Big Train

A True Story

by Henry's Daddy.

"Hey, let's go see the big train!" shouted Daddy.

Mommy was upstairs with Henry. He had just gotten up from a nap, and his eyes grew wide when he saw Daddy.

"Come with me and see the Big Train! It's the biggest steam locomotive in the whole world. And it's coming to town today!" said Daddy. "That's sounds like fun." said Mommy. "When will it be here?"
"At 1:30. But it's only stopping here for a little while." said Daddy. Mommy looked at the clock.

"OH MY! It's already 1:25! We better hurry!" said Mommy.

Henry smiled. He wasn't sure what all the excitement was about, but he could tell Mommy and Daddy were very happy about something.

Daddy put Henry in his car seat as Mommy grabbed her brand new camera. As they drove the family car down to the park next to the railroad tracks, they saw a big crowd of people waiting to see the biggest locomotive in the whole world.

Daddy carried Henry over to the tracks as Mommy got her camera from the car. Henry couldn't imagine what all the fuss was about. Lots a people were standing around, stretching their necks as they looked down the tracks toward a little puff of smoke.

"WOOOOOOT, WOOOOT-WOOOOT!!!!"

"What was that?" thought Henry.

"WOOOOOOOT. CHUGGA-CHUGGA CHUGGA-CHUGGA. WOOOOOOOOOOT!"

It was VERY loud. Henry was turning his head in all directions. So much to see. The people. Mommy with her camera. Daddy smiling and shouting "Look! It's coming!"

The giant black train engine slowly chugged up to the crowd and crawled to a stop right in front of Henry. He could not believe his eyes. It was the biggest thing he'd ever seen. It was snorting and hissing, steam shot out the side, and it made a terrible racket!

It was almost more than Henry could bare. "Maaaaa!" Henry cried. Daddy covered Henry's ears and stepped away from the crowd. He looked at Henry and smiled. Henry smiled back. "It's okay Henry." said Daddy.

Henry trusted his parents. He could tell this was something fun and exciting.......not scary at all.

This was just a whistle stop. "Lets hurry, it's only gonna be here for 30 minutes." said Daddy.

Mommy held Henry while Daddy took his turn with the camera. Henry was busy looking at the train engine and all it's machinery. But very soon it was time for the train to leave.

Mommy, Daddy and Henry drove out of the park. But before they left, they looked back and saw the train coming up the tracks heading out of town. It chugged along right beside them.

The engineer looked out and waved to Henry.

Henry Smiled back.

Hanging out at home

Henry and Family

Here are some photos of Henry meeting his Grandparents who travelled all the way from Virginia, and spending time with his aunts and cousin Hannah at the pool!

At the Lake

Henry, his Daddy, and his Mommy went to Lake Pepin for a picnic on Labor Day. It was lots of fun on this breezy, warm day, and we got lots of pictures.
