Kevin's Squirrel

As many of you know, Kevin has a thing about red squirrels, and a love/hate relationship seems to have been created there. While Kevin has had particular issues in the past, a new relationship has been established with the red squirrel living in our backyard.

Maybe it started this past spring when Kevin realized that it was living in a bird house by our apple tree, after noticing that the front door of the house had been efficiently gnawed on to make considerably bigger. Or maybe it began when he went over to the pole supporting the house and gave it a few good solid whacks and sent the squirrel in a hurried scurry.

In either case, the relationship was sealed when Kevin discovered that during the summer our little red squirrel was squirreling away a winter's supply of nuts in our shed. It was then, if not before, that the relationship officially commenced.

Yes, there was a squirrel hole in the door. Then Kev "installed" a metal plate over the hole - a temporary fix, at best, for our resourceful neighbor, who promptly "installed" another hole by the plate (sadly no picture of that yet).

But prior to the dualing dooring - our little fella was PISSED OFF when Kevin did away with the winter's food storage. All of a sudden, our friend had a bigger problem than just Kevin. He had to guard his stash from gray squirrels. And it was no small task, seeing as how there was an enormous pile sitting outside of our shed, and he was now faced with the dilemma of having to re-find, re-stash (probably in our shed)...

The saga continues, and I would expect updates throughout winter. The second door remains, and Kev has "installed" a thicker piece of wood behind it. So, presumably it will take a little longer for Red to chew through...
