Well, for those of you who don't know...

We're pregnant. And today marks 12 weeks. I went in today for my second OB appointment, not knowing what to expect, but understanding that I wouldn't be receiving an ultrasound for another 2 months, but if lucky, I would have the opportunity to hear the heartbeat. My wonderful doctor entered the room smiling and asking periodically if I had questions. Quickly, I thought of a few and asked - the primary one being if I could eat salami. Last night this was darn near the only concern I had and I needed an answer. Now that I know I can, I am not in the mood for it. And this is the way it goes. He continued to ask me if there were other questions, I wondered if maybe there were any in particular he was prepared to answer - but I apologized and said sheepishly, "no, I am sure that I should have more, but I don't".

He pulled out his little heart listening machine thingy, flipped it on, and pressed it into my abdomen and as it glided around searching for a heartbeat that wasn't mine, I listened to the inner ocean sounds coming from my stomach. Occasionally, searching for the heartbeat he would pass an artery and we would be overwhelmed by the loud pounding of my heartbeat. We couldn't hear the heartbeat - so I took this opportunity to ask a question: Is that bad? He said no, 12 weeks is usually when they start hearing heartbeats, so as I was feeling slightly let down that that would be the extent of my visit, he suggested that he would get the ultrasound machine and find baby. YEA. This is the coolest - and a big perk for me as I haven't seen the little thing for a whole month.

I laid there all globbed up waiting when he rolled in the machine and flipped it on. Sure enough we found baby, lower than anticipated, and I was amazed watching it move around in there. It is bigger than a month ago, which I think is a good sign, and occasionally a long, stick-like thing came into view. I inquired and apparently our baby has a limb! SO COOL. We are hoping for 3 more, but don't want to be overly demanding. Once we knew where she was, we could find the heartbeat, in normal range, and of course I had to point out that the heartbeat sounds like one of a cat's.

Kevin missed it, being at work, but I told him all about it, and he will attend the one in 2 months when we find out the sex, which may or may not be divulged at any given time... So, baby is healthy - from what we can tell.
